A Time To Be Grateful

What a year, Australia. She’s certainly been a tough one! A year that has laid waste to the best laid plans, confined us to our homes and completely changed our social and economic landscapes.

We’re pretty proud of you though. We’re proud of how you did what was necessary to protect our vulnerable and elderly and contain the virus. Everybody listened to the experts and the government and we’re now in one of the best positions in the world.

It’s been a difficult time, but through it all there’s a lot to be thankful for. If we focus on the positives and practice gratitude for them, we can get through anything. It’s a small yet powerful way to have a meaningful effect on the world, and its especially important when the going gets tough.

Why is Gratitude Important?

There are a number of reasons why gratitude can be so uplifting. Let’s take a look.

Gratitude Allows Us to Be Present

If you focus on your current situation and all the good things associated with it, your positive emotions will be magnified. The pleasure you get from life increases, you participate more and are happier and more appreciative within yourself.

Gratitude Blocks Negativity

The emotions that being grateful inspires aren’t compatible with toxic emotions like envy or jealousy. When you’re being grateful, these negative emotions tend to fade away into the background.

It’s Good for Our Health

Proven to enhance peace of mind and remove the focus on depressive thought patterns, gratitude can also have beneficial physical effects. These can include better sleep patterns, more energy and even faster recovery from illness or poor health.

Our Relationships Benefit

When you’re appreciative of the people in your life, they can feel it. It boosts their self-worth and makes them feel good about who they are. It creates a cycle of generosity… you express your gratitude for them, they express it back to you and to other important people. Everyone is happier and closer for it.

As we move into the holiday season and look back on 2020, let’s focus on the amazing and positive things around us. Appreciate your friends, family and community and be thankful we live in a country that has dealt with a global pandemic so effectively.
